A short while ago the California State Fall Convention came to a close with a lighter than normal ahead of the national convention in Tampa Bay, Florida. The convention was held in Burbank, CA at the Marriott that pulled some great speakers that all fellow Republicans were able to enjoy. Some of the elected people included California Republican House Delegation Representative Congressman Dana Rohrabacher Senate Republican Leader Bob Huff and Assembly Republican Leader Connie Conway.
Other expert speakers included Joel Kotkin, Internationally-recognized author and authority on global, economic, political and social trends and John Fund, National Journalist and the Nation’s Leading Authority on Voter Fraud, Voter ID Laws and Voter Integrity Issues.
In terms of endorsements, the party won’t endorse Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan until after the national convention (but will do so shortly thereafter), but did endorse the following propositions:
The delegates voted to support Props 31, 32, 33, 35, 40 and oppose props 30, 34, 36, 37, 38, 39.
Most of these proposition had to do with tax increases or more regulation, but one proposition that I am passionate about will now have bi partisan support from Republicans and Democrats. Proposition 35 will bring the hammer down on sex trafficking and will do the following:
- Increase prison terms for human traffickers
- Require convicted sex traffickers to register as sex offenders
- Require all registered sex offenders to disclose their internet accounts
- Require criminal fines from convicted human traffickers to pay for services to help victims
- Mandate law enforcement training on human trafficking
If you live in California, you know that sex trafficking is a major problems in cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco where everyone seems to be aware of its presence but it difficult to enforce. I hope that this proposition will keep more girls safe from exploitation in the sex trade. Now it will be up to the voters in November.
On a side note, the best party (event) was thrown at the CA GOP Fall Convention was done by the Republican Liberty Caucus and Ron Paul activists who threw a mock gambling party!!
